Reminiscing for Rain

By: WatchinTheSky , 10:16 PM GMT on November 02, 2012

Nov 21 Wednesday afternoon on the West Coast USA

Lovely Fall Day - Hope everyone has a fun day tomorrow

Nov 20 - Tuesday Afternoon (could be a title of a song)

Not much of a Santa Ana season this year, it got hot a couple times - but not very windy. Not much chance for hot weather so close to December now. We are not heading into the rainy season with much gusto, maybe we'll make it up later. Next week looks dry and mild.
We should get around 1.25" rain for Nov, at my house - not even half that.. unlike PSP who got over 2" in one day!

Nov 2, 2012 Friday

A new month and a new Fire Weather Watch! Must be Fall. A couple days of cool temps and fog, a couple days of 90s and 10% rh with 20-50 knot wind.

Hoping SBK has a good day at the Park, today looks like the last 'cool' day for a while :)

Only a few more days and the airwaves should become a bit more sane again. FINALLY! I need to finish voting tonight. Next time I am asking for the Essay ballot instead of the check box ballot.

The views of the author are his/her own and do not necessarily represent the position of The Weather Company or its parent, IBM.

ZILCH again for us! We had to go down the hill to experience rain! That is pretty bad. Beautiful sunset though.

Based on a comment you made in my blog, I think Festivus is a holiday you are into. Have you got your pole picked out yet?

Hi WTS! Hey! It's dropped out of the 90's and looks like rain for you??! Sure hope you are getting some.

It rains off and on here, but lately no huge amount. After the record setting rain awhile back we have been back to "the usual". I am wishing for an old-fashioned "storm". Haven't had one in a long time now that has affected us here.

Getting ready for the big rush of Christmas? According to the stores it is well underway, they say. I haven't really been in any other than the grocery store! But I have been doing my cyber part lately - a lot more relaxing! I hope December begins in fine fashion for you and you can enjoy some rain! Take care!

WTS - I wouldn't go to a store on Black Friday if you paid me! We were actually out of town. Drove home on Saturday and went to Trader Joe's, but I don't think that counts as a small local store, even though it's not a large market chain.

Had a wonderful Thanksgiving, hope you did too!

Barefoot, I finally saw what you posted. I often use my iPad to browse through WU, but of course it doesn't have flash so no puzzle showed up. I'm on my laptop tonight so I saw it and completed it!

I love jigsaw puzzles and downloaded an app on my iPad for doing jigsaw puzzles. I have a choice of pictures and number of pieces. I'm generally doing a jigsaw puzzle on a card table in the living room. I just put my table away so that I can decorate in the upcoming weeks. After the holidays, back up it goes!

Hi WTS! Chance of rain this week??? Not holding my breathe for anything measurable my way at least. I hope the young peafowl can hang on to their roosts, cause we usually always get wind.

Enough of this perfect weather!! We want rain and snow and clouds!

Hi Bf, and that's my kind of jigsaw, not too many pieces!

I have lots of thanks to give to all who stopped by and hope everyone had a good T-Day with family and friends in spirit if not in person!

Anyone brave the Black Friday or Small Business Saturday? I couldn't bring myself to, maybe I'll try cyber Monday :)

I did see a couple movies and recommend Argo and Flight was pretty good, too, though not what I was expecting.

Oh Well, back to the real world and work...

I would like to wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving, filled with family, friends, food and gratitude for what we do have. I promise to try to live up to this quote all year long!

We're heading out on the road tomorrow to Channel Islands (Ventura) and here's to hoping the traffic isn't too bad. We take the freeway to Santa Monica and then get on PCH. I think the mileage is just about the same, but the view from the car is MUCH better on PCH.

Have a great day!

The rain is still coming down here! Just minutes ago it was raining pretty hard, and has been coming and going through the day - the systems are rolling through quickly and right behind each other. But we did have some patches of blue sky today - briefly - until the next wave hit with rain and wind for awhile. So far today we have .46" rain and we are likely not finished. Yesterday's total for us was 2.42"! Quite a day around here - followed by a six hour power outage for us all through last evening!

We had a spree of seeming to go through water heaters rather quickly for awhile. Something I dread and am always on the look-out for trouble, as it seems like it isn't always that far away. I'm glad you got it done for a much cheaper price. May as well! It seems like in the old days they lasted a whole lot longer than they do now. Hmmmm.

Hey sp and PSP! Water heaters aren't so bad, at least if they are in the garage :) only a gallon or so leaked. Never had a catastrophic fail. But it pays (saves?) to check around if you are having it installed. I thought 'it can't cost too much, maybe I'll have someone do it'.

I looked around and knew a suitable heater would cost about 500$ (50 gal gas), so what the heck, another 100-150 is not too bad. The first company out started the quote (with heater) at 2100$$$$. After a bit of discussion and the comment that 'our family policy is always get more than one quote', the final price quote was 1100$$$. Second quote was through Home Depot (thinking that would be sensible) and was 1300$$$.

My neighbor offered his truck and help and we did a self install in about 2 hours, <50$ for parts plus heater. It takes 2 people, for sure. And it helps that we could be without hot water for a few days, though unexpected company came (for a 4 day stay) as we were installing - yikes, timing!
Will seriously consider a tankless gas heater next time (oohh, there is always a 'next time').

I don't know why I always think of egrets as shore birds, they just seems out of place walking around a field or gas station! Amazing how they can stand so still.

Water heaters are the worst. Well, and furnaces. Because I always mean to keep up on research so that when it goes I'll be able to make an informed choice for replacement, but, I never do, and end up getting whatever the plumber tells me to get so as to get it done asap, LOL

I saw an egret by the side of the road yesterday! I was at a stop light after getting gas and he was at the corner, behind a fence, in a pretty trashy little area. I'm supposing it attracts mouses and such. Anyway, if it hadn't moved I never would have seen it, they are so thin. When it stopped again, its neck was sort of undulating - looked like a snake about to strike! Dinosaur! ;)

Guess you missed out on the rain again. Next time! :)

Oh my. Did the water heater give you the flood that the rain did not?? So sorry for that trouble. It has been dry here today, although overcast all day, but rain on the way tomorrow again and after that as well. Winter is pretty much here now. Leaves are disappearing and the dark, dank days have arrived.

Hi PSP! Our rain was more than I expected (around .3") and a lot less than projected (around 1"), what's new :)

A couple claps of thunder preceded the cooler air coming down, and Sunday morning was the first to reach the 30s this season. Since Sunday - very clear and low humidity again, mid 80s Tuesday then cooling again maybe rain next week. Nice weather now for replacing a dead water heater - yay...

How did the rain turn out for you? Looks like a nice little spell of interesting weather has made its way south! Much cooler and rain - chances at least! Did it ever materialize for you?

Wow! Look at those weekend temperatures! And even rain! I'm sure glad for you to drop below the 90's and actually have a bit of fall! Everyone needs a difference now and then! And you are dropping wayyy below the 90's - I'm sure it will grab the locals' attention! Have fun with it!

It has taken a big dip even here - our first frost of the season! It has taken a long while to arrive this year but it does feel quite a lot chillier. The skies are partially clear and the clouds floating by are quite pretty. We are looking at highs in the 40's for a short spell and little or no rain. I'm glad for the change too.

Hi cp! I'm working on it, but those pesky backgate guards - it's hard to get anything past them. Need a distraction :)
Fire today, snow for Friday?? Maybe first of season!

Karen - See, if you went to the Park Monday instead - much cooler than 98 at Endeavor. Only 95 hiking up to the gardens!! We definitely need to go see the shuttle, maybe when it cools down :)

Yay, election is over. Soon Romney and Biden can get down to work!! Oh electoral college, you crack me up.

Hi BC :) I know you are out there somewhere! Miss your blog. I know, spring is coming!

cal - I'm so glad I stopped by here. We noticed some smoke when we were coming home. We thought there had to be a fire!

WTS - I'm glad we didn't head down there today! When we came out of the CA Science Center it was 98º!!!! By the time we got home (didn't take too long actually - before the traffic time), it was a cool 78º. The Endeavor was awesome. I'm going to put just a few photos in my blog. It's already pretty photo heavy. Not sure how that will work for folks with slower connections!

Yep, fire weather!! 15 freeway closed north and southbound. Right at Kenwood. I guess we can't have a year go by without a fire in the Cajon Pass!

If you get your meercat can you sneak me out a baby elephant :))

Hi WTS -

I have a blog up. I scaled back my pictures, as even after getting ride of the blurry/not good ones, I had 179. I did include 2 videos, the elephant and cheetah run. I do have more though. The take so long to upload on YouTube. Maybe I'll do a couple more when we get home tomorrow. It's off to see Endeavor tomorrow. These trips were suppose to be a week apart, bUt the weather played a factor in that. We have tickets for Endeavor.....can't change that!

My daughter was talking about going this weekend to the Safari Park....guess I'll have to tell her to watch the weather, won't want to go in rain! She purchased the same deal I did. After hearing us talk about it and seeing a few pictures, she can't wait!

Hi SBK! Sounds like a positive trip and the coolish weather stayed just long enough. It IS a pretty good hike to to the gardens, definitely a good thing we get to park up at the top where we 'work'!
Clifford is quite the hard working companion animal at the Park - "Clifford was instrumental in Majani%u2019s training and will continue to assist with our youngest cheetah ambassador, Kiburi, as well as our trained hyenas, warthog, and camel." I got to see a couple keepers taking Majani (largest cheetah @144 lbs at the park) and Clifford for walk. That was one big cat, but he and Clifford were just strolling like nothing special!
Can't wait to see the photos of the visit!

Hi sp - just - have - to make - it - two - more days... all the best intentions again this year, but ballot is only half done and now too late to mail. So once again, drive it to the poll and drop it off. still compiling biggest lie list and who's least likely to make things better list so I don't vote for the wrong person accidentally :)

NWS San Diego and at least one local weather person is giving some odds for rain next Fri-Sat. A long way off, but after the next couple days, some rain would be nice!
Looks like the FW Watch is gone for us, big winds are further north. All we have is Hazardous Weather Alert.

sp- I plan on opening my blog. I have loads of pictures and a few videos I'd love to share. I heard from a person the other day (on WU) that visited my blog a long time ago and jotted down the name of a poem I posted. She never left a message, but we've emailed a couple of times now. I guess a lot more people visit than leave messages.....and so it goes.

I uploaded my pics and some videos to a Picasa Web Album for the family, but I'm sure WU doesn't want to wade through 179 I'll scale it down.

We've got the boys for an overnighter tonight, so it might be tomorrow afternoon before I get to it.

We're headed up to LA to see the Endeavor on Monday! Can't wait!

Me, too, fire weather watch. So it goes.
On the bright side, this pattern in Autumn foretells rain during the season, usually, and that would be nice.
The watch starts tomorrow evening and it is still cool here today. The wind forecast is not as bad as the last one - a good 10mph lower - but humidity will be around 10%.

I'm struggling with the election thing. Not having fun, at all, and will be glad when it's over.

Karen, your trip sounds terrific - will you be opening your blog with pics? (sp asks hopefully :))

Hi WTS! We had a great time! We drove into that fog, and then back out. The weather was perfect. .We walked all the way up to the gardens, and you are right, it was a pretty steep climb. I'm sure I'll feel it in my calfs tomorrow. I walk everyday, but on pretty level terrain. I swim a lot too, but those hills sure used different muscles!

I was so impressed with all the animals, and I had a couple of favorites. The baby elephant captured my heart. Saw a baby gorilla too!!! But the cheetah run was impressive. What I liked best about that was not the speed of the cheetah, although that was very impressive, but his canine companion, Clifford. Heck, if a cheetah and a dog can get along ( who knew they could????), then why can't humans??? We sure can learn a lot from animals.

We ran into a bit of traffic going home, I guess to be expected, but when did the carpool lane become the slowest lane on the freeway? Especially when traffic is at a standstill? I'm telling ya, I am so extremely spoiled living so close to work (1.2 miles). I frequently ride my bike!!!

Thanks for your suggestions, they were all spot on!!!
