There was some magic here

By: ycd0108 , 8:20 PM GMT on March 06, 2017

I don't know what it was.
My daughter maintains a blog but I haven't been there for a while. Not because we don't love each other still.
So:
What made WU Blogs useful to us?
I'm guessing now:
The forum attracted people of a similar 'bent'
Cat 6 new entries needed to be read and the comments section there was always entertaining and sometimes informative - tended to crash when a real weather event was in process.
I could frap on about any topic I chose on my corner here.
The magic was: every now and then someone somewhere read what we wrote and wrote back.
"I'll see you all this coming fall"
The Big Rock-Candy Mountain

Mornin' Tony:
I remember 'spring breakup' in the north Okanagan.
Here we get a week or so of snow and freezing followed by melt and rain. Repeat as necessary through the winter.
I don't see much in the way of freezing temperatures in the 10 day forecast. Lots of rain predicted and a sunny day way off in distant time.

Good morning YCD. It's thawing on the prairie again today. There are puddles everywhere. Have a good day.

ChiThom:
It was a good trip in spite of the weather. In fact we went in to the small town of Tofino to shop mainly because walking on the beaches was so cold and wet. We searched for and found a lady who was about 12 years old when I worked there and got to know her Dad pretty well. She is now the Post-mistress there but she recognized us and filled in the blanks: her Dad had a stroke a few years ago and now puts up with some care during the day. He had gone back to Ahousaht the day before we got to town. He and I had many long evening sessions in his General Store - me on a coil of rope and he behind the till.
He was born and raised in Hot Springs Cove, fished, logged and milled in that area till he bought the store.

Details:
Steady rain and windy for all three days 'on the Beach'.
We 'circled' the RVs and rolled out the awnings over the space between them. Tarped up the windward side which was also the view of the beach. We had brought lots of kindling and dry firewood but the firepits were out in the wind and rain. Ended up giving away quite a jag of firewood to other hopeful campers.
Wolves were warned about in the local newspaper and this morning CBC had this story:

We did not see any wolves.

RV is back and packed, full of diesel and propane with empty holding tanks. We are going as far west as we can go. Maybe pry a stone out of the rocks there to transport it to Newfoundland this summer and bring back a 'piece of the Rock'. Gotta keep the country in balance.

I'll be away for a few days starting tomorrow. That is: assuming the RV is ready to go this afternoon with a new exhaust tail-pipe.I'll find that 'Long Beach Resort' Tofino Cam and wave at it now and then.I'll have the tablet along but I don't know how many WiFi hot spots I will find.Pretty nice weather here just now with sunshine through thin overcast. 13 C. on AcuRite in the sun.The forecast for here and Tofino calls for rain starting tonight and lasting till Friday.

That's so but what will I do with all the rest of my computer time? Disqus tells me I'm already signed in with this email but so far none of my guesses at the password seem to pass muster.
Wait a minute. I just found an old envelope with a password written on it for CBC.Ca comments. Maybe that's the one?
ChiThom:
The bunnies and deer around here play havoc with everything outside the garden fence. We don't plant the flowers out there but every year some get to flower. There are some flowering perennial shrubs like Japonica and Quince. The Hydrangea gets pruned back but still puts on a show.
Sandi:
That's what I've been thinking too. The comment section here was suffering from overload and age. I certainly contributed what I could to the overload by clicking through to comments and refreshing the page constantly.
redagainPatty:
What will you do now?
I'll be watching the Survivors and the Ark2 - might even put some new batteries in the old Cannon and take some photos now that spring is officially here.

Maybe that is what they wanted... to get rid of the "hangers on"!

To be fair, like my Flickr group of nearly 13,000, only a small percentage of the number of members actually "actively" take part. I know of at least a dozen of the folk I used to chat to, who no longer drop by... they were tempted away by the glitzy glamour of FB and other websites!

Tloml was out there doing stuff with plants most of the sunny afternoon. I opened the 12' x 12' sliding door on the shop and got some stair railings completed for the entrance to the body piercing business that has moved in below my daughter#2 and SIL#2's "Black and Blue Tattoo". Sure makes a difference when the sun deigns to shine around here.
#50 ChiThom:
There are other green shoots and we have both Tulips and Daffodils rampant around here. Now and then a Poppy volunteers.
At this stage I can't tell one from another.
Funny thing is that most of the flower show is in the areas that I dug up, ran over with the Tractorous and dumped fill to make a path. Last year's Tractorous roadway is now just barely a foot-path.

Hey Pat:
About all we could mow today is SnowDrops but there are lots of them even in the middle of the lawn. A few crocuses add a touch of colour here and there.
8 C. and thin overcast with a few blue patches up there. Forecast overnight lows are still flirting with 0 C.
Tloml has been setting seeds in the greenhouse but it's too early days to plant in the gardens.
Did I mention that we have had a herd of Elk in the fields below the place? Saw a couple of moms and calves snoozing on the hill there this morning but most of the herd has gone 'walkabout'.

Wow,,sounds great . And beautiful as well.

Im getting Couver' fever me think. Sowing in the corn today..and maters tomorrow, I like to get it all in befo the Equinox,

My Father will gone 14 years this one.

So quiet 'round here when all them easterners go to their bunks.
"Go to sleep NOW!" I used to holler up the stairs when the kids wouldn't settle down. I gave up trying to order them to do anything soon after they reached early teen-age.
We have decent conversations now and then. I never even use "You should" if they ask my advice. Often I start with:
"Maybe think about such and such."
I have received a request for information regarding 'Medically assisted suicide'.
Looked at the current federal government laws. From what I see the latest is 'Bill C 14' which will come into effect this summer.
You may or may not have had to deal with such things but I have. I know it is happening with or without the legislation.

This hopping from place to place is addictive - I'm fairly sure I'm on my old blog at WU just now. Still wonder how you and Rob are managing all the new goings on so well.
#38 Rob:
The white images seem to be restricted to WU Blogs on the desktop. The tablet shows Ylee's cams just fine but surrounded with ads. Maybe it has to do with my ad blocker.

If a cam shows as white, it usually means it is not loading for you for whatever reason. It could be a temporary issue with your service provider if it is happening with all the cams. Just out of curiousity, Next time you are at my site, look at the milos cam in the Testing area and let me know if you can't see it.

But that would not explain Ylee's cams going blank while showing the cam title and weather over the pink border.

Does anyone else notice the most images in the comments section have gone blank white. Even some which I could see a few days ago are now blank white patches.
Half of Ylee's "Windows" are also blank.

I have just reported in Ylee's blog that nothing is different for me... I see everything as is should be. Perhaps it was WU glitch. We are bound to get many as they lead up to the END and the change over to Drupel.

Mornin' Sandi:
Very nice of the fireball to flash straight ahead of the cam.
I remember seeing and hearing the effects of a meteorite over the North Okanagan in the mid '60s.
I did not have my dash cam running at the time and nor did anyone else.
The whole overcast sky lit up - I could see cows in the neighbour's field half a mile away on a dark night. I was half way down the stair hollering to the family when the rumbling started and outside as it faded away to the north.
I recall that the meteorite was found near Shuswap Lake and weighed in at about 30 # but I can not find any reports about it.
At this point I am watching three blogs: this one, The Survivors and Ark2. It will almost be a relief when WU molts into whatever it will become.

It felt like slipping into an old familiar cover-all Rob:
I'll think about it and post feedback there and on your place here.
Everything I wanted is there - ability to post links, instant appearance and comments!
We will have to see what other folks come up with.
Now that a few lifeboats are sailing the initial panic will subside and we can take a look around - maybe pick up some Survivors.

Was great to see you at the new place and even posting an entry on the test blog. Looking forward to feedback on the post process there as it is exactly like creating an entry for a member blog. Once we have a few folks try it and give me feedback on it, I'll be able to do a simple tutorial on it so that members can start their own blogs if they desire.

Thanks!
