2 August 2009Long since last I wrote. On the 8th of July a record low of 24 was set in Stanley just 60 miles from here. Since then the warmth has come and stayed. Many nights have been in the 50’s and at least one above 60: Great news for gardeners and for those who love warm evenings. It is a rare thing to be warm in the evening and to be able to pad around barefoot in the morning sun and say you live in Challis. Not much rain and once again drought is making a co...

8 July 2009This day started chilly with a few showers falling and a thunderstorm thrown in. My guess is less than .1 inches of precipitation fell. At mid afternoon the feel of change stays: A late summer’s day.

5 July 2009 5:43 PMThunderstorm with winds and fairly heavy rain giving a performance for us now as I sit down to write this. Best display happened a bit earlier. We seem to have fallen back to mid –June weather with light showers in the morning followed by clearing at midday and then monsoonal moisture and the sun’s heat bringing evening thunderstorms. While out hiking this morning the showers were chilling but only dampened the dirt a quarter of an inch or so...

4 July 2009 8:10 AMCloudy and warm greets this day—mid fifties. High summer has come and will last, hopefully, until sometime in August. Highs in the 80’s with lows above 45 constitute high summer in Drydaho. A bit of rain the last couple of days with some fine lightening on Thursday evening. Monsoonal moisture has pushed in which is commonly an August feature. As usual when the moisture comes directly from the south, as on Thursday, some storms actually get here...

26 June 2009 1 PMThunder and a bit of rain came today. Been cloudy much of the day but sun has shone a bit. The wet of earlier this month seems to have left. 2.5 inches of precipitation has probably caught us up for the year. For a long time people spoke of the wet spring but that was not true. The snow held late despite below average precipitation in April and May and gave the appearance of a wet spring. But now it is true and the rains of June have made that perc...
