Hurricane Hugo 25th Anniversary

Tomorrow marks the 25th anniversary of Hurricane Hugo.

We stayed and I'll never stay for one again, let me tell ya. While there have been other stronger, bigger and more destructive landfalling storms, it was horrible enough.

I'll never forget that night, the next day or the weeks to follow.

Those who did evacuate still didn't avoid the storm. It followed them straight inland through Columbia and on up to Charlotte.

100th Anniversary of Extension Service

2014 is the 100th anniversary of the Smith-Lever Act, otherwise known as your local extension service.

The beginnings of the extension services were the agricultural experimental stations. SC's first experimental station was established in 1886 at what is now the University of SC in Columbia. When the SC General Assembly established Clemson Agricultural College in 1889, the station was moved to the new Upstate college.
