I got away from WU blogs for a while. Sometimes you just need to objectively inspect your priortities and make some adjustments. I found myself spendin a little too much time here instead of having my head in the game at work.Nah...that's all bullshit. I opened an account on Facebook and let that have my spare time. Hello, my name is mbailey and I'm a Farm Town addict. lolI need to post some recent pictures... after all, that's why I joined WU in the first place...

Well we've gotten a bit of relief by way of rain lately. I've gotten about 1.1 inches in the last week or so. we must have gotten three inches of lightning this morning alone along with the 1/2" of precipitation. Not enough to stave off the drought but at least enough to stop the die off of my landscaping. Debbie is somewhere over the Atlantic on her way home so that will help a lot too. She will be able to water tend to the plantings that are stressed before the...

As you can see from the drought map above, South Texas is in a world of hurt. Coastal ecosystems are being hard hit as the salinity of the bays and esturaries rises. Shellfish, Whooping Cranes (and other wading birds)crabs and baitfish are dying and migrating at an alarming rate.I am to the point of not being able to pump enough water through a hose to maintain the plants and trees around my house. I am now making conscious selections on what to allow to die. Wil...

All of us can recall personally significant occurrences in our lives which to others would seem exactly opposite. Those times when the very ordinary happenings of life become extraordinary, only to ourselves. Moments when a life axiom comes to clarity or the veritable truth of such matters as love, forgiveness, truth, justice and peace is drawn unexpectedly into focus and understanding. In your secret mind you know exactly the incidents I am speaking of, regardle...

Primavera has arrived and the gardens and fruit trees are thriving in spite of our serious drought. I'm anxious for the first tomato. If anyone can spare your extra rain I'd ask you to send it my way. We are about 12" behind for the previous 12 months and already 5" or so for the calendar year 2009. Also busy putting up a screen porch, a big one, on the back of the house. It's coming along nicely, the guys constructing it are genuine craftsmen of a rare sort. My ne...
