After about a month "off the air" we are finally back to normal. On Nov. 29 our wireless internet connection (Digital Path) went out after, or as a result of, a power outage during a storm. After doing some remote diagnosis with the Tech in Chico, it was decided that the "head" on the antenna in the tree needed replacement. Earliest availability of their tree climber was 12/28! After a couple of weeks we got moved up to 12/21 but that appointment was subsequentl...

Dec. 1, 2012

My PWS, KCAALMAN1, has been missing data since circa 3:05 pm on 11/29/12 in the middle of a rain event. When I got up here on Fri. night, it was apparent that we have lost our wireless Digital Path connection with the Mt. Dyer transmitter. Digital Path Tech Support has come to the conclusion that our antenna in the tree needs repair. That's interesting since a new one was installed this winter on 1/27/12. It is the "dish type" that is DP'...

1/27/2012Good News! The Digital Path wireless guys were here this morning, one tree climber and one DP tech. Turned out they are brothers. So, as of about 12:15 pm the antenna was installed and receiving/transmitting the signal from/to Mt. Dyer. The signal strength is good and hopefully will remain so thru the coming winter and beyond. KCAALMAN1 is back reporting the weather at Prattville. :-)Joe
Read More

1/23/2012Our PWS, KCAALMAN1, has been down since Friday, 1/6/12, when the Digital Path (high speed wireless service) antenna was removed from its site in a fir tree. That tree, along with 2 others, had to be removed to allow the installation of a new septic system, which has now been accomplished. We have an appointment with DP to get the antenna re-installed in another tree on Friday, 1/27, so hopefully this PWS data will again be available thereafter. Over the we...

Last month the desktop computer we have been using with the PWS for several years began having mysterious crashes and the MS "Blue Screen of Death" syndrome. So far, we haven't found the cause or the cure. So, I bought a little Toshiba NB505 Netbook computer and it has now been set up to run the Virtual Weather Station software. After some initial teething problems with it putting itself into hibernation when left alone, it now seems content to do the required da...
