Oh, it's raining and the wind is blowing. I wish I could say "again," but that would mean that it had stopped for more than three hours. I guess I'll have to say "still." It did stop for several hours here today, and yesterday there was blue sky for a little bit, but, mostly, it's been a rainy, chilly, dreary winter with not much snow, but plenty of RAIN. But then, I hate complaining because there's some ice/snow/bone-chilling monster named "KHAN!" hammering the eas...

Hi!
I apologize for being remiss and missing the comment in a previous (waaay long ago, and I've been away too long) post about the earthquake just outside Craig. Yes. It MOVED. It ROCKED and ROLLED and shook both me and my husband completely out of bed. Now, granted, we're still in that Forest Service housing trailer just up from the beach, but trust me. The ground ROLLED. And here's how it went down ...

Me: Patrick ... off the xBox ... now.
Pa...

Then sun, then snow, then rain, then sun, then snow.. it's typical, psychotic SE Alaskan weather here on Prince of Wales Island. We woke up to SUN (hooray!), and left at 930am to get over to the Craig High School for the start of the 5K Shamrock Shuffle. At 9:58am, it started to snow ... HUGE flakes... and we ran and walked the 5K in the snow, and the only place where it got iffy was around Hamilton Drive when it was blowing sideways and pelting us with ice. ^__^ Bu...

Blowing .... snow??

Hmmm.... That's the forecast. There's actually snow on the ground (which is weird this year because it hasn't been a snowy winter, it's been a pounding-down-rain-wind-whipped winter), and the promise of another 3" of snow driven by 30mph winds. Well, 30mph winds in Klawock, which means a little stronger here in Craig....The temperature's dropped, too, which was a little surprising. I actually left a tap on to drip overnight. We haven't had a freeze-up with the pipes...

Gusting to 70mph+ here & no high wind warning??

WOW. Just WOW! I'm feeling our little place rock and roll around me. We took Katie for a walk earlier and watched the trees bend and the wind-driven waves crash around by the inlet. I'm sure it's not quite as windy in Klawock, but it is HOWLING with trees down in Craig. Wild night. Nothing about a wind advisory or warning or anything. Rumor has it the ferry won't go in the morning, and the barge isn't going to make it in tomorrow (which is REALLY inconvenient...
