Some more of my musical faves: Robert Wyatt used to lead the brilliant late 60's band Soft Machine. A fall from a 3rd floor window left him paralyzed from the waist down in 1973. Since then he has recorded some of the most sublime music ever. A sample: The band Silversun Pickups, playing in front of a hometown crowd on Last Call with Carson Daly. The look on everyone's face right as the guitar solo begins makes me so glad to be alive and be able to listen to music I...

My wife bought a bunch of highly recommended CDs a couple of years ago and I forgot about them. Recently I picked one out and have been listening to it ever since - "Caranavas" by Silversun Pickups. My favorite parts of Smashing Pumpkins, My Bloody Valentine and Yo La Tengo, with their own thing going on...

A few things I've encountered on YouTube in my new goal of improving my fingerpicking...Martin Tallstrom posts videos under the name "pinofluvius". His fingerpicking and arranging abilities are amazingly good, and he does some very offbeat stuff, like the main theme to "Twin Peaks."And the "Love Theme" in "Twin Peaks".Both are played on a baritone acoustic guitar. Lenny Breau was a fantastic musician - playing independent bass, chords and melodies. This is a very ea...

I grew up around music. My dad has a gorgeous voice, and my uncle is a reknowned jazz bassist in Europe. I play guitar and have played it since age 9. I have three guitars presently: a Fender Stratocaster (electric), a Reverend Slingshot Custom (electric) and a 30 year old Ibanez acoustic I bought from someone when it was age two. I keep the Fender around because, well, it's cool to have one; and I keep the Reverend around because they don't make that model anymore....
