After a couple wind related mishaps with the rain sensor getting blow down, it is back up and running. I've noticed, like the other instruments, that there is greater accuracy in reporting now that it is hardwired. I did notice that the amounts were lower then surrounding stations, but that's an accurate representation of the rainfall here in Milton Mills.

After enough snow has melted to uncover the rain gauge, I was able to prop it back into place today. With the light precipitation expected tonight, it should be a good test for the unit hard wired. Lets hope enough precipitation makes it this way without fizzling out. There is still a considerable amount of snow pack up this way and a considerable amount of low lying fog appeared on my ride home right at the Milton/Rochester town line all the way home to Milton Mil...

I have to say, as much as I love snow, last night was one of those nights when you wish you weren't in the band of heaviest precipitation. We lost power somewhere around 9pm, but it was no surprise. When I went outside to get some more firewood, I saw all the tree's bent over like during the ice storm and heard several large branches making that so familiar sound of giving way under the weight of the heavy snow. Once the outage did occur it was time to go get the...

Anemometer appears to be frozen in terms of direction. I rigged up a pole with a hair dryer attached to it, that seemed to have made it work but now it appears frozen again. So for now, wind speed direction may not be 100% accurate.

I've setup a dedicated machine close enough to the main sensor so that I could hard wire the weather station in. This allows for Rapid Fire updates. The main reason I did this was for wind data. With the wireless mode it has been running on, the update interval is somewhere around every 2 minutes or so. If you look at the station history you will see that this gives somewhat junky data with regards to wind speed, average wind speed and gusts. This should also b...
