Once again Wa. fire area 686, including Spokane, Newport, Ione and Metaline/ Metaline Falls are under the gun for dry lightning and high winds, 15-25 mph Sunday and increasing to 25-35 mph with gusts to 45 on Monday.We had our first freeze warning last week and most gardens on Sullivan Lake rd are freeze damaged and done for the year. Its also time to think about harvesting Elderberries and Apples if storms dont damage them and preparing gardens for winter.

Red Flag Fire Warnings For North Central & North East Washington

After a very wet and cold May and June, July has been hot and dry and now our first red flag warnings of the summer for dry lightning. Last year we barely hit 90 once. Besides the long cold spring that lasted till the first week of July its been pretty normal here in N.E. Washington state.Keep an eye to the sky for the Perseid meteor showers this week. Best viewing will be the mornings of the 11, 12 & 13th when the now waning full moon is just a crescent.
