I am writing my PhD thesis on the Fur Trade in Canada .... so I've been wrapped up in reading about beavers. And last night I got my own beaver experience. I was checking some of my favourite photo places and came across what I thought was one beaver on the side of the road. After stopping, I noticed that there were 3 beavers on one side of the road ... and that there were another 3 beavers on the other side! I was enthralled ... and clicked away while they went...

Glad to be home, and happy my hubby had the day off, we decided to go for an early morning drive down the Sibley Peninsula. This land mass which juts out into Lake Superior is known as The Sleeping Giant as it resembles a reclining, sleeping, human. There are many Ojibwa legends about the Giant and this part of Lake Superior. On the Sibley Peninsula are the small farming villages of Pass Lake and Pearl, and the Sleeping Giant Provincial Park. At the end of the Pe...

Canada is finally into spring ... melting snow, returning geese, and warm - er temps. Nonetheless, we decided to cash in our airmiles and escape to sunny Florida for a long weekend (April 4 to 6).We were really lucky to arrive in the midst of heat wave. Daytime temps were in the 90s! We landed in Miami and drove down through the keys to about mile marker 79 on Tea Table Key. Really a beautiful drive ... although if you are doing it on a Saturday expect the traf...

The week that was... weatherwise, a very interesting week indeed. We started last week (February 8 to 14) with winter still visible: large snowbanks, frozen waterways, and the ground still white with snow. As temperatures began to creep into the plus column, everyone knew that spring was getting closer! Little did we know how close! On Wednesday, the 11th, it started to rain ... and rain ... and rain! By the early evening Environment Canada had extended a Heavy ...
