Garden~

When to plant what & how in Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Alabama.

In November the planting frenzy continues for all the state of Florida, heaviest for South FL planting some summer & most winter varieties still. Harvest should be picking up too with a mix of some early winter & late summer. The hot fall has found favor with some late okra & looks to be a great season for tomatoes, cauliflower & broccoli with Brussels sprouts having a slow start. It's a good month for local diverse veggie eating. It's time to turn compost into your garden, improve soil & throw seed to the ground. Don't forget to rotate your crops, for example..legumes (beans/peas), followed by heavy eaters like corn/tomatoes, then root crops & leafy greens. Surround with herbs & flowers when possible. Below is what each part of Florida should plant from seed this month.

North FL beets, Broccoli, cabbage, Carrots, kale, Kohlrabi, Mustard, onions, radish. Last month to plant~ spinach, strawberry & collards.

Central FL beets, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, celery, collards, kale, kohlrabi, lettuce, mustard, onions, english peas, radish. Last month to plant spinach, strawberry & turnips.

South FL all beans, beets, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, celery, collards, corn, cucumber, Kale, kohlrabi, lettuce, mustard, onions, all peas, potatoes, radish, spinach, tomato, turnips. Last month to plant strawberry.

November 2012
29th-30th Any Seed Planted Now Will Rot.

Hurricane Sandy's Sand (Skyepony)
Hurricane Sandy brought millions of dollars of sand to East Central Florida. The new tidal pool/trench is where the beach used to end & the ocean began. Sandy brought far more beach than I've ever seen in this area. Not only is the sand bar new, the old beach is ~five foot higher than it used to be. It used to be 9 stairs down to the beach now it's only 4.
Hurricane Sandy's Sand
FullBeaverMoon.. (suzi46)
and the smallest full moon in North America.. This was the time to set beaver traps before the swamps froze, to ensure supply of warm winter furs. Another interpretation suggests that the name Full Beaver Moon comes from the fact that the beavers are now actively preparing for winter. It is sometimes also referred to as the Frosty Moon.

91L is new..deadening the shock of season gone so fast.. 99B is new too.

Updated my skywarn certification lastnight. Found out that Melbourne Airport is building 2 huge hangers..one 600' from the NWS doppler radar tower. Saw the simulation of what it would look like blocked more than 45º swath gone to the ESE with near 90º swath of the 2 lowest rotations gone as well. After 2 years of fighting with the airport MLB NWS is going to have to raise it's tower by 33', so the beam can clear the new building.

Construction of the new 135' tower is suppose to start first week in December. Found this with some details but it leaves out a few like it's expected to take 2 full months. MLB NWS will be using radar from the surrounding airports, NWS Tampa, JAX & MIA.

I was encouraged to come, see & take pics..I'll bring those when I get 'em.

Having a "decorate your yard" contest here in the fancy hood. Well whoever hung that moon in the sky last night, oughtta win the award.

Dreamed we got about 3 inches of snow here in Jax. Wasn't supposta happen, but a low pulled in TONS of moisture at just the wrong time. Snow n rain, heavy, for almost eighteen hours.

Seeds of Change is fixin' to vault their Roxy lettuce- get it now while it's still available.

Morning all~ Our blob got sheared pretty hard & much of the moisture feeding it was taken out to the EPAC. For the Atlantic best chance of next blob & maybe a storm is central Atlantic in a few days.

Bopha is stealing the show..

Should steadily increase as it approaches a bunch of islands..

New blob in the south Indian Ocean..98S.

Hope everyone got their seeds in the dirt. I planted some cauliflower, raab & snow peas..lots of snow peas.

OrangeRoses~ Great tune~ ♥ the calming yet energizing or passionate feel to it:) I've had to go into IE to see it though. Can't seem to find an add on in FF to view it. Your other one in #99 shows fine.

Rob~ LOL..well yeah okay..I've been bordering a troll in your blog lately.. But that was pertinent guy in tune with the earth info there, the stuff your crew should know:). Anyways y'all threw a bangin full beaver moon party in there.. That went on for pages & everyone left in the the end looked trashed. Well done.

Happy Thursday everyone.

Skye,
Do you realize how close you came to getting everyone on my blog banned this am with your "full beaver moon" post? I mean, you can't expect to just throw something like that out there with my crew and not expect repercussions!

LOL

Fortunately, cool heads prevailed.

And, I learned something.

Thanks for that!

Happy full moon tonight:)

November
Moon Names: Snow Moon, Dark Moon, Fog Moon, Beaver Moon, Mourning Moon, Blotmonath (Sacrifice Month), Herbistmonoth (Harvest Month), Mad Moon, Moon of Storms, Moon When Deer Shed Antlers.

November was the ninth month in the oldest Roman calendar. In the Celtic tradition this was the beginning of a new year. The Celtic year ended on the eve before Samhain and began again on the day after. They considered it a Moon month of beginnings and endings and many still do.

The Japanese festival honoring the goddess of the kitchen range honored the women who prepared the daily meals in a back handed way. Commonly called Kami (deity), this goddess was important because, through use of the harvested food, she protected and provided for the family.

The goddess Hecate had many celebrations though out the year. November 16 was known as the Night of Hecate, the Three -formed. Hecate is part of the most ancient form of the triple Moon goddess as Crone or Dark Moon: Artemis was the Crescent Moon and Selene the Full moon. Most of Hecate's worship, and especially on this night, was performed in a three way crossroad at night. Food was left there as an offering to her. She was known to rule the passages of life and transformation, birth and death. Her animals were the toad, the owl, the dog and the bat.

In Tibet, they celebrated the Feast of Lanterns, a Winter festival of the shortest days of the Sun. Among the Incas it was a time of the Ayamarca, or Festival of the Dead.
Correspondences

Nature Spirits: subterranean faeries
Herbs: grains of paradise, verbena, betony, borage, cinquefoil, blessed thistle

Stones: topaz, hyacinth, lapis lazuli
Trees: alder, cypress
Animals: unicorn, scorpion, scocodile, jackal
Birds: owl, goose, sparrow
Deities: Kali, Black Isis, Nicnevin, Hecate, Bast Osiris, Sarasvati, Lakshme, Skadi, Mawu
Power Flow: take root, prepare. Transformation. Strengthen communication with the god or goddess who seems closest to you.

Old Sayings & Lore

To cry for the Moon is an old saying that means you are craving or demanding something that you can't have.
The word moonshine has two meanings. In the U.S., it means "illegally distilled liquor,: also known as "white lightning." An older meaning was "total nonsense."
A waning Moon was considered an unlucky time for a marriage or birth.
In English, French, Italian, Latin, and Greek, the Moon is feminine; but in all the Teutonic languages the Moon is masculine. In Sanskrit, the word for the Moon is mas, which is masculine.
To the Chinese, the Old Man in the Moon was Yue-lao. It was his duty to predestine the marriages of mortals. They said he tied the future husband and wife together with an invisible silk cord that never parted as long as they lived.
Although the Koran expressly forbids worshipping the Sun or Moon, many Moslems still clasp their hands at the sight of a New Moon and offer a prayer.

YAY! on the raab seeds.

Made up a GREAT fully lemon cookie recipe, all from two lemons.

Tip of the day- If you have tried EVERY knife in the house, AND the hacksaw, and you still can not cut the bread? Then you can not EAT the bread.

No- Put it DOWN, you CAN NOT EAT IT.

(you'd think it was the last crumb left in the house)

Hi Wab! wish I could mail you some letti!

Hey everyone! Hope the holiday was grand.

Aqua~ Thanks for sharing your garden here. Hope You get to taste some sweet rewards. The salad looks delectable. Had some tonight with tacos. Way to showcase the yummy side of winter:) Sent raab seeds. Might need to wait til spring but I've planted them in the spring & had them last all through cooler summers..through maybe July the rest but enough for a crop or three.

I've got to get some garden pics up. My first round of broccoli plants surprised me today with their size..

Wabit~ Nice to see you enjoying family. Did alot of that here to.

Low last night was 50.2º, so nice being on the warm side of that.

Finn~ Best of luck with the new place. Maybe this cold will drive the snakes back a bit. You might just do best abandoning the garden middle of summer & staying in more til fall. Found it's the only way to get through summer without getting stung by wasps & bees...cuts down on the snakes I see too:)

Panama has declared three disaster areas after two people were killed in landslides triggered by torrential rain. "I have just seen the people who were killed and spoken with their families. This is more serious than people thought," President Ricardo Martinelli said in a posting on Twitter on Sunday. The worst-hit areas were Colon province on the Caribbean coast and the Capira area 60km west of Panama City, where a landslide buried two people inside their home. Martinelli toured hard-hit areas and declared Capira, Chorrera and Colon disaster areas, to speed up assistance to them, a statement from his office said. In Chorrera, water filled homes to the roof, rivers burst their banks and shops were flooded. At least 800 homes have been damaged by the storm and 94 people had to be evacuated by rescue officials, emergency workers said. "I have lived in Chorrera for 38 years and never seen anything like this," said Guillermo Ferrufino, minister for social development. He said the death toll could rise as authorities begin to reach areas cut off by the heavy rains.

Moving today and tomorrow. The jungle has been cleared (with 2 legless casualties of war). A Buddhist Abbott friend of ours was there yesterday, we'll see if his "magic" works with them creatures so we can live in peace and I can grow a vegetable garden without being too jumpy. If not, we'll move again. Change is the only constant in the universe... and I have moved from one place to another 4 or 5 dozen times in my life so I don't worry about it.

Off to Tai-Chi/Qigong to calm down from today.

Have a wonderful week yalls!

ASCAT of that low off Africa this morning had it coming undone & decoupling.

91W (parts of which were formally known as 90W) is now 26W.

Boldwin is dead.

Weather here couldn't be nicer unless it rained.

By the moon get your ground ready to plant tomorrow.

This low off Africa is about as good as it's gonna get. This is the brief moment where it's almost got a shallow asymmetric warm core, almost subtropical..all the models have it transition back more cold core on it's way to landfall. SST are a little cold.

Fresh OSCAT

Three in a row.. That low off Africa, one hitting the UK & the one up there by Norway..

According to recent microwave imagery, low level circulation center, always quite difficult to locate, seems to be located now west northwest out of the convection.

In the south of the upper level ridge axis, northwesterly vertical wind shear keeps on increasing near the center of Boldwin.

The convective activity mainly exists in the southeastern quadrant. Wind shear is expected to keeps on increasing as the system will undergo the influence of an approaching upper level trough. System is therefore expected to keeps on weakening rapidly within the next 24 hours as it tracks west southwestwards under the steering influence of the subtropical high pressures.

Beyond system should track towards a polar trough transiting in its south, and turn southwards and merge with this trough on Wednesday.

In the south of the upper level ridge axis, northwesterly vertical wind shear keeps on increasing near the center of Boldwin. Due to a lack of recent microwave imagery, low level circulation center is difficult to locate precisely but the small vortex is still masked by upper level clouds.

The convective activity mainly exists in the southeastern quadrant but remains well sustained by a rather good poleward upper level divergence.

Wind shear is expected to keeps on increasing as the system will undergo the influence of an approaching upper level trough. System is therefore expected to keeps on weakening within the next 36 hours as it tracks west southwestwards under the steering influence of the subtropical high pressures.

Beyond system should track towards a polar trough transiting in its south, and turn southwards and then south southeastward and merge with this trough on Wednesday or Thursday.

Hades~ By Dvorak BOLDWIN may have peaked. WKNG Flag ON, pressure up from 984 to 986mb..

Aqua~ Maybe it hasn't decided to try & flower yet. Give it bonemeal:)

Found more of those & mailed them.

♥ that cabbage fried with onions & ham or something.

Bogon~ Way to put something out there & tune into the universe to receive a dream:) It can be done.

Ylee~ Let me know how it holds. Seems there was some defect, loose screen making many fragile. Might get it righted. Didn't pay anywhere near full price or I'd be livid.

$200 for a 7" tablet is just too much, IMO. Better off getting something cheap on ebay with 80% of the performance. Paid $80 for my son's tab; I'll let you know how it holds up!
