Wow! Went out this evening to watch the storms move in. They were quite a show. Started with a very quiet lake- calm, which is rare for us here. The water was green and only ever so slightly in motion. There were rumbles of thunder overhead and streaking in them as if a paint brush was pulled upward. It wasn't long before the lightning became frequent. It's very disappointing to me that with all the pictures I took, I couldn't get the lightning in any of them!! The ...

Been wanting to see more of TX for a long time. Yesterday made a lunch and took off west. Never been but to the edge of Tarrant county- nearly into Parker on I-20- checking out storms. This was a planned expedition. Started out late to be sure to miss most of the commuter traffic around the metroplex. Traffic was still heavy right out to near the Parker county line. Drove up through Wheatland and Aledo- pretty country. Lots of farms/ranches. Everyone was tedding or ...

Life is crazy. One day you go out and you couldn't pay a bird to hold still enough to get one picture. Another day, like today, 2 of 'em sat there for free and were very content to stay there until the car came. It's been a great June so far. If I can just put the end of May in there it's perfect! I've waited to see a storm like that one on May 26th. Then June 1st one with a whole different "personality" came through. I love to study the structure of the storm- it's...

May 24th drove all over the place, wandering hopefully after thunderstorms. In all my travels learned a bit about avoiding the "core" main precip area, saw some good lightning and scenery, and learned roads in the area south of my location. But when I got near "home" began seeing some interesting cloud formations. Saw a strange snake like cloud, not a funnel per say, but a tube-like thing wound in a knot. When I got on the main road and was about to go to the lake s...

Wow, what a day! Went to the park early and it was cold and windy. The sun was out but it took a while for it to warm up. Did get to see my first ever Common Yellowthroat warbler. Also saw mama painted bunting- they're not as colorful as the male but her shadings of green-yellow are beautiful. This afternoon was perfect- mid 70's, sunshine and breeze. Did a lot of walking and it was well worth the while! I can't say how many butterfly species I saw- lost track. I've...
