Ta-da! A NEW blog! Finally! The old blog was getting pretty stale and I'd been waiting for the right time to introduce my new theme: "Adventures with Parnassus!"
After months of waiting, this past week Parnassus and I at last escaped the clutches of my daily routine for our first excursion to a local state park. The weather wasn't perfect; in fact, although we had set up our campsite basking in the happy warmth of bright sunshine, by early evening, rouge clouds had rolled in and thundered rumbled in the distance. My friend Jill was sharing the site with me and was borrowing my tent; when the rain started to pour down from the leaden skies, we retreated to the comfort of Parnassus and ate an evening meal of salsa, tortilla chips and crackers and cheese, seeing as our dinner was now drowning on the sputtering campfire. After a leisurely supper, we set-up my portable DVD player and watched a movie while we waited for the rain to pass. By 10 or 10:30pm, the rain had finally ended and the thunder was muttering quietly as it moved off, so Jill said she was going out to the tent (even though I said she could stay on my nice, dry couch in the camper) and she said her good nights.
What we didn't know was that it had rained at LEAST 3 inches and the heavy rains had soaked through the front wall of the tent; but first-time camper Jill, trooper that she was, said that luckily the tent was large enough that the back half was still dry and she still wanted to try to sleep in the tent. I told her to come back if she changed her mind.
At about 2AM, I heard a knock at the door. "Can I come in?" I'd been sleeping lightly because a restless cat had been conducting a thorough investigation of the camper and had walked all over me, all night long. I hastily let Jill in and settled her and her little dog on the couch with blankets and pillows and we eventually got to sleep.
The next morning dawned with blue skies and sunshine and after coaxing some damp firewood to burn, cooked a breakfast of perked coffee, pancakes and bacon. We delighted in eating outdoors in such a scenic place but soon had to get to work pulling everything out of Jill's tent and hanging it up to dry. So, it turns out, was everyone else in the park! The fluke storm had knocked out electricity and Internet to much of the area, so it seems that a lot of people were camping at that time, whether they intended to be or not.
But, other than a light sprinkle of rain, the rest of the weather was fine and we enjoyed a pleasant time hiking up and down a hill to a pond, walking the area and nightly campfires with hot cocoa and toasted marshmallows! My dog and cat seemed quite content to be RVing again, something they were familiar with as my ex-husband & I had lived in an RV for two years. It was fun for me, too, and my friend Jill was pleased with her introduction to living in The Great Outdoors. I can't wait to go again - we're already planning our next trip!

I just realized that today is my ten year anniversary with Weather Underground.
Thank you to all who have made this place so special to me!
For those who have been asking for pictures of my new loft apartment:

Yes, that's a real porthole over the bathroom sink!

Happy Birthday to my faithful Sammy who turns 6 years old on September 13th! Who remembers my Name the Puppy blog back in 2006? Feather and Allybama came up with the names (Sam/Samson) that we eventually picked for our new, furry baby. He's now a robust dog in his prime and my best buddy. Happy Birthday, Sammy.
