THANK YOU, {{{VETERANS}}}!Hubby Lorne & I just returned from ten days in Vermont, a much needed respite from a hectic summer season on Cape Cod. We chose to take The Ark up to a campground in the Lake Champlain Islands, and stayed at Champlain Campground on Grand Isle. It was peaceful, beautiful and close to family so we could visit with relatives often and also near other great places to sight-see.Note the windmills across the lake in New York State. We had towe...

The cavemen knew it, a lot of animals know it........ there's a lot to be said for in-ground or earth-bermed homes. I understand the reluctance to make the shift to this type of home, as I love traditional style houses but it's really hard to ignore the benefits of an earth-bermed/in-ground domicile. I've been fascinated by them and toyed with their design for many years. I've visited a few of the homes, spoke with a very kind in-ground house architect who offere...

I've decided to do a non-political no more doom and gloom blog. Most of us have been hit by the current world-wide economic situation and many of us are experiencing tough times. But, there are some good things coming out of this. Hard times inspire people to look for solutions to their problems and they often come up with some pretty ingenious ideas. My hope is that we can post what we are doing to help get over this major bump in the road and that maybe others...

1/17/2009: UPDATE: It was 10 degrees outside when we woke up this morning. Luckily for us, there wasn't any of Cape Cod famous winds blowing, or it would have felt like we were sitting on the top of Mount Washington! The sun is shining and we've now crept up to 17 degrees; comparatively balmy to this morning's crisp thermometer reading. All I can say is that I hope this is the coldest weather we see this winter. I know that other areas have had much colder tem...

Our own lovely Sandiquiz inspired this blog! When my husband and I were experiencing some very grim times, many of you here helped us to keep our chins up, but Sandi's way of helping to keep our focus on the good things was to tell us to look for the silver lining. There's always something to appreciate; watching a flock of Canada geese winging determinedly through the chilly air, honking vigorously as they go, seeing the season's first snowflakes waft earthward, ...
