Good morning and Happy New Year! Most of you are rather chilly this morning! An arctic airmass has pushed into the US and current covers most of the central US. This airmass is expected to push east and south and cover most of the eastern US over the next couple of days. Record lows are being set in the south and will most likely continue to be set all the way down into FL. Snow isn't out of the question for some Gulf Coast areas though, for the most part, by the ti...

Good morning and welcome to my first winter weather post of the season. Now that the tropical season is done, I'll focus on the SE US winter weather discussion. I've gotten woefully negligent at keeping my blog updated as the tropical season was so slow. I'll try to maintain the winter weather discussion a bit better. Most of us here in the SE, particularly along the northern Gulf Coast, have about had our fill of rain over the last month. Unfortunately, we get to en...

Good morning folks! I'm still flying and training in Little Rock, AR for another couple of weeks but thought I'd take a moment to talk about Ida this morning! As of 7am EST this morning, Ida was a category 1 hurricane just east of Cozumel, MX moving north at 12 mph. The current forecast has Ida moving north into the cool waters of the Gulf and under some fairly strong shear. While some slow strengthening may occur today, rapid weakening should begin tomorrow. So the ...

Good morning folks! The tropics have been relatively quiet for most of the season with small bursts of activity here and there. I'm currently in Little Rock, AR learning the airdrop side of the job of loadmaster and haven't been able to fly any of the storms this year but as it's a slow year, I guess I picked a good time to do the training! Mid-September is statistically the peak of the hurricane season. You wouldn't know it looking at the current satellite loops of...
