After lightning took out my serial port on the laptop my weather station once again lives....for now. I am configuring another spare laptop for a backup this week so perhaps I can keep it going a bit longer before getting a new system. It does seem to have a little glitch so it may drift away for a brief minute or so...but it is in the "serial to USB" adaptet I think."I am a very patient person"Oh, and we got over 6" of rain last weekend in High Island.

New Evacuation Law for Texas and Some Thoughts

First, my weather station is off the air as it were due to computer failure in the link to the station.Next, allow me to comment on the new Texas law which gives police some rules to allow "reasonalbe force" for manditory evacuations. We leave our little coastal community more when the threat becomes real....that is to say that the track of the storm will bring or may bring the storm near our town. It is easy for us to leave as we have a loaded RV ready to travel wi...

Just in time for Hurricane season, my LaCrosse Weather Station is back in it's spot. I did elevate the sensors about 4' and installed it on a pole that can be taken down for maintenance. I have noticed some bird droppings, seeds etc in the rain sensor...so I put a bit of "chicken mesh" wire with the tips cut in such a way as to discourage birds from sitting on the rim of the rain sensor. This is a chore I have been trying to get accomplished since Ike but mounting ...

After no repsonse from LaCrosse in ten days I decided to do some "research" on my wind sensor failure. I noticed that one of the pins on the RJ-11 phone connector was a bit green and pitted. I was surprised as it just returned from LaCrosse for repairs and worked fine for 4 hours.I cut off the old flat wire end and pressed a new one on using a kit I got from Radio Shack. Instantly the wind readings began to show up on my PC. Excellent. I also got some non-condu...

My Weather Station....Dead Again

For those who have been keeping up with my High Island Backyard weather station, it has died again. I received it from LaCrosse Technology on Dec. 10 and had it working that evening. Then it snowed on the beach. At 11:38 PM the same night, the wind sensor stopped reporting data and has not returned in spite of new batteries, resetting the sensor and restarting the system several times.I am awaiting a reply to my service request from LaCrosse. Until the fix is co...
