Weather Update blog 12 year anniversary!Twelve years ago this week, in February, 2000, shortly after I left my first career as a Meteorologist at Weather Central in Madison, I started writing this Weather Update blog. It was originally emailed to four college buddies and posted on my previous employer’s Intranet, under the page “Webmaster Forecast,” and quickly grew to almost 100 readers. From 2004-2008, I added a games section to the blog, where readers would...

Mild again today, then colder. Still no blizzards in sight. Our snowless February looks to continue for at least another week. High pressure will give us one more day of mild sunshine later today before more clouds and colder temperatures roll in tonight and tomorrow. We may see a few flurries overnight, but I’m not going to get excited about it. If you’re loving our grassy winter, you can thank our previous two winters which were way above average for snowfall. ...

Q: What will be the most interesting weather phenomena we will see in the next week?A: Fog. Yep. Fog. Not that fog isn’t interesting, mind you. I mean, who doesn’t want to walk inside clouds? Cartoon characters do it all the time, and they seem to be enjoying themselves. And it’s not to say that there isn’t more interesting weather somewhere else. Just ask someone in Colorado or Kansas what their most interesting weather will be today, and they may make some...

Light snow ending this morning, then a mostly dry week ahead.A weak disturbance to our northwest is developing some light snow showers across parts of northeastern Wisconsin this morning. Some of those snow showers are dropping into central and southeastern Wisconsin, but should push off to the east shortly. Otherwise, besides some drizzle which may show up briefly tomorrow, we’ve got another dry week ahead, which should continue to help us set some winter records...

Sun today, snow tonight. Get used to that pattern.Numerous fast-moving storm systems are going to move through over the next few days. They seem to be aligning in a pattern where we get snow in the evening and overnight, then partial clearing during the day. None of the snows look too terrible, although we could see about 1-3” of snow tonight depending on where you live in the Badger state. The good news is that while we will get colder this weekend with highs in...
