When we moved to this property there was ONE tree around the house. We've planted many more, but this little pistache is my favorite. Its still small - about 15 feet tall -- but such wonderful color. Already can see it from the street, but when it gets bigger its going to be a stunner!
Light rain here today - damp that pasture down!

Darn they've taken the rain out of the forecast for the weekend. Chilly nights near freezing, and warmish days = beautiful weather! Even the predicted strong winds were not really bad. The air is so clear, the night sky has been really lovely. Seeing lots of shooting stars to the east of us, is there some meteor shower going on?

Read the other day that there is a significant El Nino out in the Pacific and for our part of California that generally means a wetter than average winter. We could use one! And so far, we have had a lot of rain for October. Several good days of precip last week and woke this morning to the pleasant sound of rain. Its rather amazing how fast the grass in the pasture is sprouting. Often our hills are brown until January, but the green is showing through already here ...

Cool wind, high clouds coming in ... I believe the reports that the first storm of the season is on the way! We are supposed to have rain by this time tomorrow. Most of the grapes are in (some estimates that 85% of the crop is in) so there shouldn't be damage there. Our pastures and arenas really need to have the dust damped down! So, predictions of up to 4 inches of rain in the next three days ... let's see if it comes true!

One week ago it was record heat at 109!We have since returned to lovely Fall weather - had our first frost down at the barn (its down at the bottom of a canyon so is always a few degrees colder than the house up on the hill) and its breezy, cool and well, FALLISH! Very nice.
