"Afternoon Thoughts" (Updated 11/1)Good evening!!! So it is that time of year being November 1 is Sunday, to bring out the winter blog format for the general weekly discussion. Also be sure to check out my November outlook posted below. As usual significant storm systems, lake effect snow outbreaks, strong Alberta clippers/Manitoba Maulers/Saskatchewan Screamer, or polar air plunge will bring out a specially formatted blog for that occasion. Generally if you remembe...

"Afternoon Thoughts"(Updated 10/25)Good afternoon all!!! Sorry for the delay in the new blog, but it was a hectic week. By the way my winter weekly weather format blog will debut next weekend as we start November 1. Anyways so this weekend I headed out to the grocery store as most all of us do during our free time on the week, but low and behold the holiday decorations were out. "Let it Snow" was playing with Santa Claus hoisted on a sleigh next to the cereal. I tho...

I must say this has to be one of my favorite Octobers in the last few years. I took one of my typical hikes Sunday afternoon up on the trail that strattles the summit of Blue Mountain near Linglestown for a few miles to the power line clearing/hawk migration viewing location. Fall leaves were looking pretty nice with oaks even beginning to show some yellow color change. Colors are about a week ahead of schedule with maples reaching their peak here in the Lower Susqu...

"Afternoon Thoughts"(Updated 10/03)Good evening!!! Today I want to look at an interesting concept in the meteorological field, averages. We use the term average for granted every day, not only just weather enthusiasts but also the average Joe. An average is a mean total taken from a set of data added together and divided by the amount of data taken. This gives you the mean, or average total from that data pool and it usually comes out to the mode, or most common dat...

"Afternoon Thoughts"(Updated 9/26)Looking back at the past year in weather across the Northeast, I find it hard to pinpoint any storm of any significance. Not that this is a bad thing, as the relatively quiet in nationwide weather is probably better for the economy; but it is interesting how benign the weather pattern really has been. Yes there have been several extreme weather anomalies, for instance take the recent Atlanta metro flooding with up to 19inches of rai...
