Facts about NOVEMBER
According to the Georgian calendar, November is the eleventh month of the year. In the early Roman calendar, it was the ninth month. The Roman Senate elected to name the eleventh month for Tiberus Caesar, and since Augustus time, it has had only 30 days. Originally, there were 30 days, then 29, then 31.
November comes between the fall and winter months. The leaves are almost completely gone from the trees, and the rest have lost most of their color. The Anglo-Saxons referred to November as the 'wind month' and the 'blood month' - probably because this is the month they killed their animals for food.
Lots of activities come to a halt in November. The crops have been harvested and either put in storage, or sent to processing plants or mills. Farmers already know if their year has been successful or not. Football is the main sport of the month. The weather is usually beautiful for this kind of sport.
The topaz is the birthstone for November.
The chrysanthemum is the flower for the month of November.
NOVEMBER QUOTE
November woods are bare and still; November days are clear and bright; Each noon burns up the morning's chill, The morning's snow is gone by night..

Oh damn, is cold out there this morning...Burrrr. Temps in the mid 30s, no frost but close and today's high will be 41F with sunshine and a light breeze. I think I will do some cleaning today rather than go shopping. Just a bit too chilly for me when I am not feeling up to it.
Anyway, have a great day everyone. Stay well and stay warm.

Wouldn't mind a bit of that heat here Ylee..I think its both those old farts that have their fans blowing east. At least I am warmer than Ottawa and I worry about those folks without heat on the eastcoast when this cold reaches them. Hopefully by then, most will have their hydro back on so their furnaces will work. A high efficiency furnace is good if the fan is working to blow the heat through the house.

Good morning Tony, Ylee...Looks like another quiet day in SW Ontario. Did get my bedroom all moved about yesterday and everything clean and tidy again, also did a big laundry. Today I just need to sweep the hardwoods, do some dusting and fill the dishwasher. Oh yes,if I think of it, change the clocks back an hour...LOL
Have a great day dear ones.

Ah yes, another night time venture on the blogs. One of these days I may eventually sleep like normal folks instead of a few hours here and a few hours there.
Sure hope it warms up here a bit. Been rather chilly since Sandy went through the east coast. Some areas are talking about flurries, so far nothing here but they did forecast a bit of ice rain last night. Luckily here, we did not get any.
Anyway, have a great Tuesday.

Good morning Alley. My memory sure is failing. What used to be my big day, trash night, is being forgotten now. I was out at 10 pm putting the trash on the curb for the early morning pickup. We must be on the start of the recycle route as their here around 7am. Enjoy the day.

LOL Tony. We are at an age where not only memory fails us at times but other parts do too...ROFLMBO. It's hard just to roll out of bed on some days, the old knees just don't want to cooperate.
Time to grab a nice warm coffee and start taking my meds. Maybe then I can finally go and get some sleep. Been awake since 1 AM and could not go back to sleep.
Have a great Wednesday everyone.

ROB and PROS, thank you for the lovely birthday wishes. Have to scramble now to get ready to go out and do some shopping etc. Have a wonderful day and thanks again for making mine special for me.

Thank Ylee and Skye. Did not have too bad a day but did have a turn when I went grocery shopping. Did not get everything done I wanted to but the old back gave out so had to put it to bed with a heating pad so I could move later. Still not l00% but better than it was.
Decided to postpone my dinner out as its raining a bit out and I don't want to aggravate the arthritis more than it already is.
Just made a sandwich and enjoyed some dark fruit cake I managed to pick up at the grocers today...Will put a chicken on to roast tomorrow.
Thank you all who remembered my Birthday today. Have a great night.

Hi there...yes the snow is suppose to stay away from us here but the snowbelt may see some in the London area and northern Ontario. Nothing here but rain thanks to the southernly flow of warm air coming out of the South. No complaints. Its going to be cold tomorrow then back up in the low to mid 40s by Wednesday.
Have a safe and happy day out there. Drive carefully.

Alley - Easy, girl. The secession business is just reaction to the election. No one is suceeding from the Union. In the first place, it's not legally possible. In the second place, every governor and legislative body I've read about have been completely opposed. And the proportion of people signing the petitions is very, very small. VERY small.
It's just one of those things. When the White House made the possibility of petitions possible, it probably was bound to happen. Most people who voted against Obama don't want to leave the U.S.!

Well if you can hang in there for one more year, you can have this place. I probably will be looking to move into a senior's residence when I hit 65. It's getting harder and harder to manage a house with a big yard the older I get with my comobilities and living alone.

good morning Alley. sorry to hear your thinking of moving to a senior home. Life can be good there though. i have a friend who lives in a +55 apartment building. He likes it there. No yardwork and the lady residents are always pestering him and bringing him baked goods. With indoor parking and utilities paid the $400 a month he pays is a good deal. Have a good day.

Sorry for the lateness in joining the others below to celebrate your life and special day, last Friday, Nov. 9th! Nevertheless, I'm glad to see the many congratulatory posts you received last week.
It's reassuring to know that you've been seriously considering entering an assisted living facility in your area. Lately, I've wished that I could enter one myself, as I was dealt a serious reprimand by my own doctor last week due to losing a critical ten pounds (through stress/anxiety) within the past year. I've finally stood up to my hubby, his brother, sister-in-law and, especially, their 91 yr old father who have placed so many responsibilities and demands upon me that it finally jeopardized my own health. Thankfully, my 91 yr old F-I-L realizes that he, too, must now enter the same nursing home as his wife which will definiately alleviate much anxiety on the part of his two 60 plus yr old sons and daughters-in-law. Since last October, he has been defiantly living alone at his own home, lost his driver's license after totaling his car in January, and, therefore, had to rely upon us and outside weekday van services (scheduled through me) for his daily transportation needs. Perhaps, it wouldn't have been so bad if my own hubby's health hadn't been so seriously compromised from strokes and other related issues these past few years (that, alone, has stressed me out considerably). Be that as it may, it will be a great relief to know that both my aged in-laws are safe, well cared for, and that the rest of us (closely nearing senior status) can resume a much healthier more relaxed pace of living.
By the terrific outdoor pics you've posted of your lovely well-kept home and gardens, you should have no problem in fetching a real decent price by a prospective buyer once you've listed your home. You've done so admirably in keeping up the outside (and I'm sure the inside) of your home by yourself! IT'S NO EASY TASK THESE DAYS!!
Naturally, we all have your best interests at heart as well and hope that you can continue communicating with us by computer (laptop ?) once you've selected and moved into a decent living facility. We'll certainly miss your many posted seasonal recipes but definitely will be relieved to know you're in good hands, not alone and have enough round the clock care at your disposal!

Oh Merle dear one. Where ever I choose to find an apartment, it must be a two bedroom so I can still have my office space to set up my piano, book shelves and computer desk. I will settle for nothing less. I am not looking to go into a nursing home not by the long stretch but an apartment will allow me more freedom from trying to maintain a house and yard each year. Just the savings on taxes and yard care will be a boon. The other alternative is to have someone live in who can do the little things like that for me for reduced rent. We will see when the time comes.
Gosh it has been a beautiful day out, warm 50F, no wind and low humidity. Looks like much the same from now until the end of next week anyway...finally some comfort from those cold damp days. Lot of sunshine to bring up my mood too. Hope to get all my Xmas shopping done this week too. I picked up some goodies for me today, 3 sets of sheets, a new mattress topper like the one advertised on TV...a new coffee maker along with other stuff.
Well I better get off here and open up a can of yums for my babies. They will be coming around soon for their dinner. Hope they don't get too freaked out by the Santa Parade here on my street.

ROFLMBO Ylee. This is my late birthday. Did not get out last week for it as it was just too cold for me but today was good so I had my meal out, did a little shopping at the store that is closing its doors, everything was 40% off today. It's a good time to pick up things on sale that would otherwise need to be purchased later at a higher cost. Just the new mattress pad saved me 75 dollars so no complaints.

There certainly are advantages to apartment living. I wish I had a house to sell, but I don't, so I'll puddle along. But I can tell you - there's nothing like being able to pick up the phone, call the office and say, "Fix this", or "fix that". I've not only had a few of the standar repairs, but when the floor in the kitchen started looking a little ratty, they replaced that, etc. etc. And, they let me paint as I chose. That was great.
I'm glad to hear you're in the 50s for a while. We've been coolish - mid 60s - but it's still comfortable for work. I've got a bunch of work piled up, but I'm hoping to have it under control by January, when our real cold shows up.
I was happy to hear you muttering about getting some new pastels, too - or getting your old ones out. I can't remember. Those are the kind of projects that really make the time fly!

Just a brief greeting with a photo collage from my last painting, and a quote from a poem:

Good afternoon PROS. Finally got my lazy old bag of bones out of the nice warm bed. Oh I was up earlier but only for a short bit to take meds then right back to the sleep sack. Knees and back were giving me a bit of grief this morning so since I am not on any particular time schedule for getting things done, I decided the best place to be was snoozin'....LOL
Next week I will venture downtown, have not been down there in ages and ages so it will do me good and I can see what is available at the stores down there for Xmas gifts. Our big Sears store is down at the civic centre mall so I am sure there will be some goodies to be had there...
Anyway, time to have my coffee and take my noon pills. Will throw a load of laundry in the washer and then sweep my floors and pass the vacuum where needed. All in all not a whole lot to do, just need to get at it....LOL
Have a great day dear ones.

Good morning Alley. I could start doing household chores but soon I'd have everyone else up and grumbling that i woke them too early. I guess I'll just continue to busy myself at the computer.
Member Since: August 18, 2006 Posts: 2301 Comments: 7012
Tony, maybe you can have everybody help you with the chore, then that way everything would be done a lot quicker, and you could take a nap! :)
Alley, it's supposed to be up in the 60s today with sunny skies here; perfect weather for setting up outside Christmas decorations. Unfortunately, I'm at work! Gotta pay for the electricity to power those lights! :)
Be careful when you head downtown!
