Mt. Redoubt has been downgraded to "green". Last week's observations showed reduced activity, though there is still a little steaming from the dome. Temps are starting to hover around the freezing mark... so it will probably be steaming for a while yet. This news makes me happy, and all the panic is slowly being forgotten. We can turn our attention to Samoa and Indonesia, where Mother Nature has decided to take her unrest. My thoughts and prayers go out to all t...

We were cruising right along, 30s-40s... then BAM!!! -1.8°F this morning! :O I've been scrambling to keep water from freezing everywhere, but it's not working so well so far. I was hoping the summer rains would continue into Winter snows, but no such luck. :( Create your own visitor map!

We got our first "popcorn" snow yesterday here in Sterling. Not quite hail stones, not quite snow, but like tiny snowballs bouncing all over. We've been hovering in the mid 20s to mid 40s range this last week. It's rainging right now, but at 32.9°F it should be close to snowing. If it snows this winter like it rained this summer, we should have a fun time on the snowmachines this year! ;) We had beautiful yellows and reds as Fall set in... now those colors are o...

On Aug 16 we drove to Homer, and the fireweed was in its prime... tall, magestic, and fields of pink as far as you can see. Of course, me without my camera, and it was raining, so it wouldn't have done it justice anyway. This past Saturday, the 23rd, we drove down again... the fireweed is now red and starting to go to seed. Summer is here and gone...*snap!* that quick. :(We had a gorgeous day trip on the 23rd... drove down early, popped over to Seldovia for lunch...

Well, we headed into town the morning, all bundled up against the cold... -20°F as we were driving down the road. We took a look at the ice sculptures that were just being finished as we got there. Then we watched the dog weight-pulls, which was rather a disappointment since there were only 3 dogs entered. A miniature Australian Shepard (sp?), a medium sized dog that looked like a slimmed-down version of Koda, and an Alaskan Husky. The Husky happened to be the son ...
