The National Weather Service in Morristown, TN has issued a
* Flood Warning for
the French Broad River near Newport TN.
* From Saturday morning until Sunday afternoon.
* At 7:45 am this morning the stage was 6.8 feet and rising.
* Flood stage is 10.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... rise above flood stage by Saturday morning and continue
to rise to near 11.0 feet by Saturday evening. The river will fall
below flood stage by Sunday morning.
* At 10.0 feet... agricultural land near the gage on Highway 321 is
flooded.

* Flood Warning for
the Pigeon River at Newport TN.
* From this morning until late Saturday night.
* At 7:00 am this morning the stage was 8.0 feet and rising.
* Flood stage is 8.0 feet.
* Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... rise above flood stage this morning and continue to
rise to near 10.0 feet by this evening. The river will fall below
flood stage by Saturday evening.
* At 8.0 feet... minor flooding occurs downstream from gage on Highway
25/70 and in the community of Edwina. Jimtown Road may be affected.

* flood advisory for
the Pigeon River at Newport TN
* at 02am Friday the stage was 7.4 feet.
* Flood stage is 8.0 feet.
* The river will continue to rise to near 7.8 feet after midnight
tomorrow.
* The river will continue to fall to near 7.6 feet by .
* At 8.0 feet... minor flooding occurs downstream from gage on Highway
25/70 and in the community of Edwina. Jimtown Road may be affected.

The Flood Watch continues for

* portions of southwest North Carolina, east Tennessee, and
southwest Virginia, including the following areas, in
southwest North Carolina, Cherokee and Clay. In east
Tennessee, Anderson, Bledsoe, Blount Smoky Mountains, Bradley,
Campbell, Claiborne, Cocke Smoky Mountains, east Polk,
Grainger, Hamblen, Hamilton, Hancock, Hawkins, Jefferson,
Johnson, Knox, Loudon, Marion, McMinn, Meigs, Morgan, NW
Blount, north Sevier, northwest Carter, northwest Cocke,
northwest Greene, northwest Monroe, Rhea, Roane, Scott TN,
Sequatchie, Sevier Smoky Mountains, southeast Carter,
southeast Greene, southeast Monroe, Sullivan, Unicoi, Union,
Washington TN, and west Polk. In southwest Virginia, Lee,
Russell, Scott, Washington, and wise.

* Through Saturday morning

* additional periods of moderate to heavy rainfall will overspread
the region today, lasting through Saturday morning. Rainfall
totals ranging from 2 to 3 inches are expected with isolated
higher amounts closer to 4 inches possible.

* Given the already saturated soil and high stream flows, the
additional moderate to heavy rains will likely cause significant
stream flooding, roadway flooding, mud slides, and main Stem
river flooding. Potentially life threatening flooding is
possible.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means that conditions are favorable for heavy
rain... which may lead to flooding in and near the watch area. Be
alert for rising water or water over roadways. Keep informed...
and be ready for action if flooding is observed or if a Flood
Warning is issued. If you come to a closed or flooded Road... turn
