Southeastern Burlington

Public Information Statement
Statement as of 4:19 am EDT on May 22, 2012

... National safe boating week continues through may 25th...

This is the fourth in a daily series of considerations for boaters
this Summer.

Wind and waves affect all types of boats.

Wind over water is usually stronger than over nearby land...
especially at night. Wind and waves can change quickly in
speed... direction and steepness.

So... not only is it important that you include a marine weather
forecast in your preparations for boating... but also a
communications system to monitor the weather information when on the
water... including our special marine warnings and marine weather
statements.

Communications system suggestions are a marine vhf transceiver with
built-in NOAA Weather Radio channels... and... if venturing beyond a
25 mile range from shore, consider purchasing a good quality hf
single sideband transceiver and satellite phone.
