The National Weather Service in Billings has issued a

* urban and small stream flood advisory for...
east central Stillwater County in south central Montana...
north central Carbon County in south central Montana...
southwestern Yellowstone County in south central Montana...

* until 1145 am MDT Wednesday.

* Rainfall of around an inch with localized amounts to 2 inches
occurred across the area during the nighttime hours. This may
cause localized minor flooding of small streams, ditches and other
low lying areas. Urban areas, including Billings, may experience
street flooding and significant ponding of water.

* Creeks which may experience minor flooding include Blue Creek,
Duck Creek, Pryor creek, Red Lodge Creek, Rock creek and Elbow
creek.

* Periods of moderate to heavy rain showers will continue this
morning. Please watch for ponded water, flooded underpasses and
low land flooding during your morning commute.

* Some locations that may experience minor flooding include...
Billings, Laurel, Joliet, Lockwood, Huntley, Shepherd, Edgar,
Silesia, Acton, Park City and Rockvale.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around and don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most
flood deaths occur in vehicles. Please report flooding to your local
law enforcement agency, and have them report the information to the
National Weather Service.

The Flood Watch continues for

* portions of Montana and north central Wyoming... including the
following... in Montana... Big Horn... Carbon... Golden
Valley... Musselshell... park... Stillwater... Sweet Grass...
Wheatland and Yellowstone. In north central Wyoming... Sheridan.

* Through late Wednesday night.

* Periods of showers and thunderstorms will continue through
Wednesday. Widespread rainfall totals of 1 to 1.50 inches are
expected, with locally higher amounts likely. Flooding is possible
along mainstem rivers and tributaries already running high due to
snowmelt. Some flooding of ditches and low lying areas is also
possible.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible flood
warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared
to take action should flooding develop. Bank erosion is likely. Do
not walk near river banks as the underlying soil may be eroded. In
addition, if encountering flooded roads, turn around don't drown.
