Flash Flood Warning

The National Weather Service in New Orleans has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
central Jackson County in southern Mississippi...

* until 945 PM CDT

* at 639 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain across the warned area. Flash flooding is expected to
begin shortly.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Ocean Springs, Moss Point, Escatawpa, Gautier, Wade, Gulf hills,
Hurley, Vancleave, Gulf Park Estates, Hickory Hills and Big Point.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

A Flash Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring.
If you are in the warned area move to higher ground immediately.
Residents living along streams and creeks should take immediate
precautions to protect life and property.

The Flood Warning continues for
the Pascagoula river at Graham Ferry.
* Until further notice.
* At 10:45 am Thursday the stage was 16.0 feet.
* Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 16.0 feet.
* Forecast... rise above flood stage by late this morning and continue
to rise to near 18.0 feet by Monday evening.
* Impact... at 16.0 feet... river property at Cumbest Bluff will be cut
off by high water and some river roads will be impassable.

The Flood Warning continues for
the Escatawpa river above Orange Grove.
* Until further notice.
* At 10:30 am Thursday the stage was 7.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 8.0 feet.
* Forecast... rise above flood stage by tonight and continue to rise
to near 10.0 feet by Sunday early afternoon.
* Impact... at 10.0 feet... flooding of some homes and business
structures will occur along U.S. Highway 90 and subdivisions along
the river. Access roads to the river will be flooded.
* Impact... at 8.0 feet... flooding will occur at low spots along U.S.
Highway 90 from Orange Grove to Moss Point. Some residences and
business structures will be threatened.

The Flood Warning continues for
the Pascagoula at Merrill
* from this afternoon until further notice.
* At 10am Thursday the stage was 23.4 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 22 feet.
* Forecast to rise above flood stage by this afternoon and continue to rise near
27 feet by early Monday morning.
* At 25 feet... some County roads in the area will become flooded.
* At 24 feet... streets and portions of the old business section of Merrill will
become flooded. At 24 feet the bridge becomes inacessible by vehicles.
* At 23.5 feet... water is under homes in Plum Bluff Estates

Friday...

* coastal flooding... tides 1 to 3 feet above normal will
continue through the next high tide which will occur late
tomorrow morning and through the afternoon.

* Timing... now through tomorrow afternoon.

* Impacts... moderate flooding of low lying areas and access
roads near tidal lakes... bays and inlets as well as the open
coast outside hurricane protection levee systems.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A coastal flood advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides
will combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore.
