* at 1235 PM CST, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain that will cause
flooding. Up to three inches of rain have already fallen.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Oxford, Batesville, Water Valley, Charleston, George Payne State
Park, Holly Springs National Forest, Tutwiler, Bruce, Lambert,
Coffeeville, Crowder, Webb, Sumner, Pope, Pittsboro, Enid, Paynes,
Sabougla, Cambridge and Bethlehem.

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

* At 10 am Thursday the stage was... 23.6 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Maximum forecast stage of 25.0 feet on Thursday February 22.
* Flood stage is 25.0 feet.
At 25.0 feet, flooding is occurring in agriculture land near the
river..

The Flood Warning continues for
the little Tallahatchie canal at little Tallahatchie river at Etta
near New Albany
* from Thursday February 22 until Saturday February 24.
* At 8 am Thursday the stage was 23.7 feet.
* Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Maximum forecast stage of 28.0 feet on Friday February 23.
* Flood stage is 25.0 feet.
* Forecast to rise above flood stage by Thursday February 22 and
continue to rise to near 28.0 feet by Friday February 23.
* At 28.0 feet... crop land flooding is very extensive and water
begins to cover County Highway 46. County Highway 47 has 1 to 2
feet of water over the unpaved portions. Evacuations become
necessary due to access problems.

The Flood Watch is now in effect for

* a portion of north Mississippi, including the following areas,
Lafayette, Tallahatchie, Union, and Yalobusha.

* Until 6 PM CST this evening

* heavy rainfall is expected across portions of north Mississippi.
Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible on top
of the 3 to 5 inches that fell this morning.


* Runoff from heavy rainfall may result in rapid rises in river,
stream, and creek levels. Widespread lowland flooding is
possible and poor drainage urban areas may experience street
flooding.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
