Flood Warning
Issued: 9:25 PM EST Dec. 15, 2018 – National Weather Service

... Flood Warning extended until Tuesday evening...
the Flood Warning continues for
the Potomac River at Shepherdstown.
* From early tomorrow afternoon until Tuesday evening.
* At 8 PM Saturday the stage was 4.7 feet.
* Flood stage is 15.0 feet.
* Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... rise above flood stage by early tomorrow afternoon and
crest near 23.1 feet by Monday morning. The river will fall below
flood stage by late Tuesday afternoon.
* Impact... at 24.0 feet... water begins to cover the parking lot
adjacent to the Shepherdstown boat ramp, and approaches the lowest
Point of an adjacent building. Water also reaches the upper parking
area of the boat ramp adjacent to dam number four on the West
Virginia side of the river.
* Flood history... this crest compares to a previous crest of 23.1 feet
on Jun 4 2018.

... Flood Watch remains in effect until 6 am EST early this
morning...

The Flood Watch continues for

* portions of Maryland, the District of Columbia, Virginia, and
West Virginia, including the following areas, in Maryland,
Anne Arundel, Carroll, central and eastern Allegany, central
and southeast Howard, central and southeast Montgomery,
extreme western Allegany, Frederick MD, northern Baltimore,
northwest Harford, northwest Howard, northwest Montgomery,
Prince Georges, southeast Harford, southern Baltimore, and
Washington. The District of Columbia. In Virginia,
Arlington/Falls Church/Alexandria, Clarke, eastern Loudoun,
Fairfax, Frederick VA, and western Loudoun. In West Virginia,
Berkeley, eastern Mineral, Hampshire, Jefferson, Morgan, and
western Mineral.

* Until 6 am EST early this morning

* moderate rainfall is expected tonight with locally heavy rain
possible. Storm total rainfall amounts of 2 to 3 inches are
expected. Isolated higher totals of up to 4 inches are
possible. Runoff from the rainfall may cause creeks and
streams to rise out of their banks as well as the potential
for flooding in urban areas.


Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.

* Flood stage is 23.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is possible.

possible flooding.
