Watches & Warnings

Special Statement
Issued: 4:07 AM CDT Sep. 20, 2018 – National Weather Service

... Highest heat index value around 105 degrees this afternoon...

July-like heat and humidity will continue to dominate the area
this afternoon with high temperatures rising into the low to
possibly mid 90s. The hot temperatures combined with the high
humidity levels will produce heat index values as high as 105
degrees in a few areas this afternoon across central, east
central and southeast Illinois.

Heat index values this high increase the risk of developing heat
illnesses. Even though the calendar says we are in the middle
of September, dress for Summer, drink plenty of fluids and limit
time outdoors today. Check on the elderly and pets, as well as
those without access to air conditioning.

Heat illness develops quickly and can overtake you with little
warning.
