... A Flood Warning remains in effect until 800 PM EDT for the eastern
District of Columbia and Prince Georges counties...

At 408 PM EDT, emergency management officials reported flooding in
the Anacostia area and National mall. Flooding was also reported on
Suitland Road and Suitland parkway in Prince Georges County.

Some locations that may experience flooding include...
Bowie, Clinton, College Park, Fort Washington, Greenbelt, Langley
Park, Beltsville, Forestville, largo, Coral Hills, Bladensburg,
National Harbor, Upper Marlboro, University of Maryland, nationals
park, fedex field, gallaudet University, Fort Totten, rfk stadium and
Andrews Air Force Base.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. All
interested parties should take necessary precautions immediately.

... A Flood Warning remains in effect until 715 PM EDT for the western
District of Columbia... Arlington... Fairfax... and central Prince
William counties... the city of Fairfax... the city of Falls Church...
the city of Manassas Park and the northwestern city of Alexandria...

At 230 PM EDT, several streams in the Alexandria and Takoma Park
areas are rising rapidly and are within a couple of feet of flood
stage. These are Cameron run at Alexandria and at eisenhower Avenue
and the Fourmile Run at Alexandria. Also, the Sligo creek at Takoma
Park is within 2 feet of flood stage and rising rapidly. Although
heavy rain has ended, runoff from previous rainfall will likely
result in these streams rise above flood stage.

Some locations that may experience flooding include...
Arlington, Alexandria, Centreville, Reston, Annandale, Springfield,
Herndon, Fairfax, Vienna, Falls Church, Mantua, Pimmit Hills, McLean,
Howard University, American Legion bridge, Reagan National Airport,
Rosslyn, Crystal City, Potomac and Burke.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Stay away or be swept away. River banks and culverts can become
unstable and unsafe.

Issued: 3:59 PM EDT Aug. 21, 2018 – National Weather Service

... Coastal flood advisory remains in effect until 9 am EDT
Wednesday...

* locations... shoreline in the District of Columbia.

* Tidal departure... 1 to 1.5 feet above normal.

* Timing... around the times of high tide this afternoon and
again Wednesday morning. High tide at Washington Channel is at
5:38 PM this afternoon and again at 5:58 am Wednesday morning.

* Impacts... shoreline inundation is expected along portions of
the seawall adjacent to Ohio drive and the Hains Point loop
Road, and near the Tidal Basin and Jefferson Memorial. Minor
shoreline inundation up to one foot above ground is possible
elsewhere.
