Winter Storm Warning
Issued: 9:08 AM MST Feb. 22, 2019 – National Weather Service

... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 5 PM MST this
afternoon...

* what... periods of heavy snow. Additional snow accumulations of 2
to 5 inches. Total snow accumulations of 17 to 30 inches
expected with locally higher amounts on favored slopes of the
southern San Juans and Abajo Mountains. 10 to 20 inches expected
with locally higher amounts on favored slopes over the northern
San Juans.

* Where... in Utah, La Sal and Abajo Mountains. In Colorado,
southwest San Juan Mountains and northwest San Juan Mountains.

* When... until 5 PM MST this afternoon.

* Additional details... plan on slippery Road conditions which will
make travel difficult. Patchy blowing snow could significantly
reduce visibility. A detailed map of the snowfall can be found

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Warning for snow means severe winter weather
conditions will make travel very hazardous or impossible. If you
must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your
vehicle in case of an emergency.

Avalanche warning for the caic south San Juan zone.

* Timing: in effect from 12 PM MST Thursday, February 21st through 9
am MST Saturday, February 23rd

* affected areas: San Juan Mountains, La Plata Mountains, and Needle
Mountains, Grenadier Range, and the San Juan Mountains-east above
10,000 feet

* avalanche danger: the backcountry avalanche danger is high (level
4 of 5)

The potent winter storm that began impacting southern areas of
Utah and Colorado Wednesday evening continues this morning,
providing snow to much of the forecast area.

Lower elevations of southeast Utah and southwest Colorado fared
very well with this storm, receiving 5 to 10 inches from desert
areas of Utah east to Cortez. Higher values have been reported
in areas around Blanding, Monticello and Dove Creek, with upwards
of 20 inches with some Wind Blow snow. Further east, storm total
snowfall values range from 15 to 20 inches from Durango to Pagosa
Springs.
