Flood Warning, Areal Flood Warning
Issued: 9:14 AM CST Feb. 22, 2019 – National Weather Service

... Flood Warning extended until Wednesday morning... the Flood Warning
continues for
the Tennessee River at Whitesburg.
* Until Wednesday morning.
* At 8 am Friday the stage was 19.4 feet.
* Flood stage is 17.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast by
the Tennessee Valley authority.
* Recent activity... the maximum river stage in the 24 hours ending at
8 am Friday was 19.4 feet.
* Impact... at 21.0 feet... backwater causes flooding on Redstone
Arsenal. Significant flooding is occurring on the Morgan County
side of the river with hundreds of acres and several homes and
roads flooded.
* Flood history... this crest compares to a previous crest of 19.5 feet
on Mar 11 2011.

The National Weather Service in Huntsville Alabama has extended the

* Flood Warning for...
Franklin County in northwestern Alabama...
northwestern Morgan County in north central Alabama...
central Lawrence County in northwestern Alabama...

* until 1245 PM CST Friday.

* At 602 am CST, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated
that heavy rain was falling over the area. The heavy rain will
make the ongoing flooding worse.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Decatur, Hartselle, Russellville, Moulton, Red Bay, Priceville,
Trinity, Phil Campbell, Belgreen and Hillsboro.

Additional rainfall amounts of one to two inches are possible in the
warned area.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, country roads, farmland, and other low lying
spots.

A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. All
interested parties should take necessary precautions immediately.

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of Alabama and southern middle Tennessee, including
the following areas, in Alabama, Colbert, Cullman, DeKalb,
Franklin al, Jackson, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone,
Madison, Marshall, and Morgan. In southern middle Tennessee,
Franklin TN, Lincoln, and Moore.

* Through early Saturday

* periods of showers and a few thunderstorms are expected late
tonight through early Saturday morning. This will result in
excessive rain and a high risk of flash flooding. Total rainfall
amounts of 2 to 3 inches are likely, with locally higher amounts
of 3 to 5 inches.

* Residents should make preparations now if they live in a flood
prone area.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
