Blizzard Warning
Issued: 5:00 AM AKST Nov. 20, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Blizzard Warning in effect from 9 PM this evening to 6 am akst
Wednesday...

* what... blizzard conditions expected. Travel will be very
dangerous to impossible. Damage to power lines is possible.
Total snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches, with localized
amounts up to 9 inches, are expected.

* Where... Baldwin Peninsula and Selawik valley.

* When... 9 PM today to 6 am Wednesday.

* Additional details... winds gusting as high as 60 mph will
cause whiteout conditions in blowing snow. Significant
drifting of the snow is likely.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are
expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds
and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout
conditions, making travel extremely dangerous.





Coastal Flood Watch

... Coastal Flood Watch in effect from Tuesday evening through
Wednesday afternoon...

The National Weather Service in Fairbanks has issued a coastal
Flood Watch, which is in effect from Tuesday evening through
Wednesday afternoon.

* Location... Baldwin Peninsula and Kotzebue.

* Coastal flooding... storm surge 4 to 6 feet above the normal high
tide line.

* Timing... winds will increase from the west and northwest Tuesday
afternoon with storm surge pushing onshore in the evening.

* Impacts... the storm surge may displace the Young shorefast ice
and push it onshore. The most vulnerable areas will be on the
north end of Kotzebue. Residents should prepare by moving
valuables well above the normal high tide line and away from
west facing locations.

A coastal Flood Watch means that conditions favorable for
flooding are expected to develop. Coastal residents should be
alert for later statements or warnings and take action to protect
property.
